Sometimes, men forget that their skin needs love, too! From protecting their skin from the sun to the proper use of shaving products to having professionals skincare treatments such as men’s facials, the choices men make in how to take care of their skin can make a world of difference.

Sun Protection and Men’s Skin. Many men are outside playing sports or enjoying the activities that nature provides and forget to apply sunblock.

Researchers at Saint Louis University found that neck and head melanoma (skin cancer) cases rose by 50% in the last 20 years, with males between the ages of 15 to 39 being the primary demographic associated with this dramatic increase! Additional issues found were deeper wrinkles, more broken capillaries, and pigmentation changes.

Using sunscreen is highly recommended for everyone who spends any time in the sun. For men, we recommend that you slather your favorite sunscreen on your face, on the top of your head if you are bald or have a shaved head, and on the back of your neck and ears. Our male patients love our Elta sunscreens. Just remember to reapply every two hours if you are outside.

Shaving and the Health of Skin. When it comes to shaving, many of the drugstore gel to foam or foam shaving creams have a high concentration of alcohol, which may dry out the skin. Dull skin, acne, and pseudo-folliculitis (inflamed hair follicles) can be the result of using these types of shaving creams. Plus, they can upset the pH balance of the skin and not allow for the natural shedding of skin cells.

Facials. Most men think that facials are something that is what estheticians refer to as “fluff and buff” which is thought to be all massage and the use of a bunch of creams. And many men also believe that facials don’t change anything about the skin.

At the Skincare Professionals, we perform therapeutic medical grade facials. While they can be relaxing, we get into the nitty-gritty and deeply cleanse the skin. This leaves our male clients feeling refreshed and they cannot believe how replenished their skin feels when we use tailored skincare to replace lost moisture and calm the skin for those who suffer from acne or rosacea.

Gift cards are a great way to introduce the men in your life to the benefits of facials and the education that we provide to take pride in their skin. Click here to contact us and learn more about the aesthetic skincare treatments and products that we recommend for our male patients.
